Syntune S3600 – Preliminary

Integrable tunable laser assembly

S3600

The Syntune S3600 is a tunable laser assembly compatible with the OIF "Integrable Tunable Laser Assembly"Opens in new window MSA, based on Syntune's modulated grating Y-branch (MG–Y) laser design. The MG–Y laser is a monolithic device, similar to a common distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser, and can tuned by current injection to address any wavelength in the C-band.

The laser chip in the S3600 module has an integrated semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), which gives the device a high output power (> 13 dBm), offers the flexibility to adjust the output power over a wide range (> 4 dB) on the fly, and allows light to be blocked while tuning from one channel to another.

The laser chip is packaged into a hermetically sealed package, with an integrated optical isolator and wavelength locker, allowing the emission frequency to be stabilised to within ±2.5 GHz over life. The assembly contains all electronics necessary to control the laser, offering users a simple and well-defined digital command interface.
